Chapter 22

Lil Meatbun suspects that his teammate might have tricked him, “Xiao-Lu, haven’t you watched Wanan’s livestream before?”
Brother Hu turns around, too. He is more direct with his words, “You look like a completely different person. Girl, you’re not catfishing, are you?”
Mu Wanwan doesn’t really mind, “I do look a little different when I have make-up on.”
“A little different??” Lil Meatbun waves his hand and laughs, “Stop joking. Come, tell me, where will these two gank next?”
In the short time they spent talking, Blitzcrank is back in the middle lane for another gank. Thankfully, Lil Meatbun has learnt his lesson. He turns around into their jungle to clear the three-wolf camp before returning to his tower to continue farming in his lane.
“Team advantage is already clear. There’s no point for him to gank anymore,” Mu Wanwan does not explain further, “the ADC is going to AFK if this support ganks again.”
The ADC from the enemy’s team speaks the moment she finishes her sentence.
【(All) Jinx, the Loose Cannon: Push mid. I don’t wanna play anymore.】
Lil Meatbun is intrigued.
【(All) Karthis, the Deathsinger: What’s wrong, brother?】
【(All) Jinx, the Loose Cannon: This f*cking support gives me a bad game experience. Just push and take this game.】
【(All) Blizcrank, the Great Steam Golem: Retarded ADC, all you have to do is to get carried, and you still can’t do it, you fkn…#%$#!”&】
And the two start an argument on the public text channel.
Even so, the Blizcrank and Jinx still participate in the major team fight five minutes later.
Lil Meatbun exclaims as he controls his character, “Jinx, that big fat liar!”
Mu Wanwan is very entertained. She picks up the coffee and takes a sip.
Hm?
Why does the coffee taste so good?
She turns around. Since Pei Lu let her sit on his chair, he’s currently standing in front of his computer desk, half bent, as he uses his computer.
Although her eyesight isn’t that good, she can still see his side profile clearly. His tall nose is very obvious from this angle. His lips are pursed slightly, his Adam’s apple…
Feeling her gaze, Pei Lu turns suddenly.
“What’s wrong?”
“Ah, erm,” Mu Wanwan gathers herself and holds up her cup of coffee, “this coffee is pretty good. I’m wondering what brand it is-”
“Xiao-Lu’s family brought back that coffee from overseas,” Lil Meatbun rushes to answer first, “I don’t think they have it here.”
Pei Lu shows no hesitation and straightens, “I’ll grab some for you.”
“No need, no need!” Mu Wanwan quickly responds, “I don’t really like drinking coffee anyway.”
“You drink it every time you stream,” Pei Lu exposes her bluntly, “Bring some back. You don’t have to go out to get coffee every time.”
“She’s definitely not Wanan,” Lil Meatbun turns around after his game ended, “Wanan’s eyes are two times bigger than hers!”
Pei Lu ignores him and goes straight to the pantry to get coffee.
Lil Meatbut is still staring at Mu Wanwan, “Wanan’s nose is narrower, and her lips are thicker. Besides, Wanan’s face is pretty small.”
Mu Wanwan does not bother refuting him, “Yes, yes. You are absolutely right.
“No,” Lil Meatbun stands up suddenly, “log in to your LoL account and let me see.”
…Why is it that the more he looks at her, the more she resembles Wanan??
Mu Wanwan complies and quickly logs into her account, her WPM extremely high when she keys in her password.
Lil Meatbun steps forward and looks.
DepressedPrince, Level 30.
…He is mindblown.
“You…” Lil Meatbun quickly clears the desk of trash, “You’re Wanan, for real?!”
Mu Wanwan answers with a “hm” as she immediately receives several invitations the moment she gets online.
Lil Meatbun is still in shock. Brother Hu turns around, his eyes blinking and staring at her. Even Mu Tou glances at her a couple of times.
Brother Hu has no filter, “Wanwan, girl, just how long do you usually take for your make-up?” Can he even call that makeup? It’s almost face-painting!
Mu Wanwan answers, “Probably more than half an hour.”
Brother Hu asks, “You look so good without makeup. Why do you still use makeup? Isn’t it better to use the time to play a couple more games?”
Lil Meatbun asks after a long pause, “Then, why does your voice sound different too-”
“I used a voice-changing software,” Mu Wanwan answers truthfully, “I made my voice sound more coy.”
Coy, my ass! It sounds so much worse than her voice now!
“How much did you pay for the software?”
Mu Wanwan isn’t sure, “400?”
No wonder there are static noises during her streams. Lil Meatbun cannot help complaining, “You’re not taking this seriously enough. The other female streamers are using software that costs 1000, or even 10000.”
No one mentioned anything about Brother Yang wanting to invite her to the team. A moment later, Pei Lu returns with a small bag in his hand.
He puts the bag of coffee powder beside her hand, “Shall I give you a tour of the third floor? That’s where the second team trains.”
Lil Meatbun responds before Mu Wanwan, “Why don’t we play a few games together? There’s nothing much to see at the base. We have what we should have.”
“Play what?” says Brother Yang, who has just returned, “The practice match is starting soon. The second team is already on standby.”
Pei Lu squints, “With the second team, again?”
“Yeah. We had an appointment with GGX initially, but now the news about Chen He’s ban from the tournament is out. They don’t want to play against us anymore.” Brother Yang continues to type on his handphone, not even bothering to look up, “We can’t really blame them. Let’s start the practice match first. I’m contacting HSS now.”
Mu Wanwan stands up quickly, “I’ll take my leave then.”
Brother Yang looks up, puzzled, and sees her. He falls silent for a while before he asks uncertainly, “Wanan?”
“Holy shit,” Lil Meatbun can’t help giving him a thumbs up, his voice full of admiration, “you actually recognise her.”
Brother Yang ignores him and glances at Pei Lu before his gaze falls back on Mu Wanwan, “Did Xiao-Lu invite you over?”
“Yeah,” Mu Wanwan pauses and adds, “he invited me to have a tour of TS’s base.”
“I see,” Brother Yang smiles, “are you guys done with the tour?”
“Yeah, I’m about to leave.”
Brother Yang nods, “Coincidentally, I have something I want to discuss with you. Since you’re done with the tour, do you have some time now?”
Can she even say no in such a situation…?
Mu Wanwan squares her shoulders. She was about to nod when she heard footsteps.
“Brother Yang, are you still angry?”
Chen He walks over leisurely, a bubble tea in his hand.
The whole of the second floor falls silent. She can even hear the tapping of mouse and keyboards from the floor above where the second team trains.
Pei Lu, who has been beside her, moves to stand in front of her subtly, blocking more than half of her body from view.
This person… has really wide shoulders.
Brother Yang asks, “Why did you come?”
“Urgh, I’m about to puke from staying too long at the hotel. Obviously, I can’t wait to come back,” Chen He walks forward, wanting to put his arm on Pei Lu’s shoulder. Pei Lu moves back quietly to dodge his arm, which allows Chen He to see who’s behind Pei Lu all this while, “Hey, girl. How are you doing?”
Mu Wanwan merely smiles and does not answer.
“Who are you?” Chen He looks around and continues with a big smile, “Don’t tell me one of you has already gotten a girlfriend in the few days I stayed in the hotel? Xiao-Lu, it can’t be you, right?”
“You, follow me. The practice match will be delayed for an hour,” Brother Yang looks at Mu Wanwan, “Wanan, is it okay if you wait for me for a bit?”
*
Mu Wanwan’s head hurt a little.
She’s supposedly here for a tour—
But why is she playing LoL now???
“Quick, quick, quick! Come over and take red buff! The enemy is coming over to steal!” Lil Meatbun shouts, “We’ll gank them and win the game after getting the buff!!”
Brother Hu and Mu Tou are standing behind him, focused on giving commands.
“You should farm on the middle lane. Look, the wave is already at the tower. She just got out from the base. There’s no way she can get there so quickly.” Brother Hu comments.
Mu Tou adds, “Their mid has no flash.”
On the other hand, Mu Wanwan opens the menu and looks at everyone’s equipment.
Their bottom lane and middle lane have a bit of an advantage, but their top lane is a goner, which has given the enemy’s solo top Darius to wander around the map confidently.
“Don’t take this red,” Pei Lu sits beside her, a caramel pudding in his hand. He frees one of his hands and taps on the mini-map on the bottom right of the monitor lightly. “Their top and jungle are probably waiting to gank in this area.”
His fingers are very long and straight. His nails are very neatly cut, elegant and clean.
Lil Meatbun is used to listening to Pei Lu’s instructions and responds immediately, “Don’t take? I won’t go there, then.”
“…Take it, take it!” Mu Wanwan comes back to her senses.
Pei Lu is very certain, “They are missing from the bottom lane too. They are either at the river or in your jungle.”
Mu Wanwan clearly doesn’t listen, “No problem, I’ll leave once I get it,”
There’s no way she can leave their own red buff to the enemy’s ADC, or she’ll be furious for at least half an hour!
She controls her Caitlyn and moves quickly to the red buff, clearing half of the monster’s HP with just a few hits. She smiles, “See, it should be fine.”
She then throws out her E skill, wanting to take advantage of the critical damage from her net to kill the monster and get the buff quicker.
Caitlyn’s E is a movement skill. It allows the character to move back a short distance.
All that can be seen is her character moving backwards into a bush nearby.
Mu Wanwan is dumbfounded the moment she enters the bush and sees what’s inside.
There are three people in the bush—
The enemy’s Darius, Thresh, and Vayne.
She feels like a lamb that walked into a wolf’s mouth.
Mu Wanwan is speechless.
Caitlyn is CC-ed immediately by Thresh and Vayne and cannot move. Mu Wanwan’s monitor turns grey in less than five seconds.
Pei Lu sighs, his hand still holding a small spoon, “I told you. You should not take this red buff.”
Mu Wanwan is aggrieved, “Can’t I even take our own red buff?”
“…You can,” Pei Lu says, “Give your jungler a ping. Their red buff is going to spawn in 20 seconds. You guys can steal it. Lil Meatbun. Come over and go together.”
Lil Meatbun answers behind them, “Roger.”
The enemies arrive just as they get the red buff. Mu Wanwan is about to turn around and escape.
“You don’t have to run. You guys can win this,” Pei Lu glances at the map, “Their ADC is not here. This is winnable.”
…
Mu Wanwan finishes the game following Pei Lu’s commands.
Pei Lu’s voice is very gentle. She does not find it noisy even though she’s constantly hearing his voice. Rather, she finds it soothing.
They ended the game with a victory. Just as Mu Wanwan is about to say something, she hears pretty loud voices of argument from downstairs.
“That’s because they’re noobs! How is that related to my being late? Did I make any fatal mistakes during the tournament?!” Chen He’s voice is extremely fierce, “At the backstage, too! It was that Fuzhou fatso who made the first move. I was only defending myself! What reason do they have to ban me from participating in the tournament as well?? The organiser is mad!! Besides, I’m banned only for a month, not a year! Why are you guys kicking me out of the team?!”
"There's no connection between us firing you and you being banned from the tournament," Brother Yang said angrily, "I've been discussing this with the management for a long time. Just look at yourself. You don't take your training seriously, and your personal life is a mess. You're often out at night. I haven't even talked to you about the few times you've disappeared without telling any of us! Anyway, that was the management's decision. The remaining of your salary has been transferred to you. Please leave!”
“Pfft,” Chen He snorted, “You think I wanna stay in this rotten team?? Your mid, top, and jungler are so bad. You can’t even get the right to compete internationally. Now that you guys no longer have me, I bet you’re gonna be playing for the relegation playoffs soon!”
“Don’t think too highly of yourself,” Brother Yang said, “We’ll naturally be looking for a new member now that you’re gone.”
“New member? Who? That one from the second team? Let me tell you honestly. He’s legit noob-”
“The kids from the second team are all very outstanding.”
Pei Lu moves to stand at the edge of the stairs.
His expression is calm as he gazes at the two people arguing downstairs. His tone remains gentle.
However, the words accompanying it are uncharacteristically harsh, "You don’t have to worry about the rest – our new member will definitely be stronger than you, wittier than you, and more devoted to this career than you are.”
