Chapter 3

The chat is fills with teasing in an instant. [Discrimination against girls, reported.] Mu Wanwan lifts her eyes and glances at the chat, “How was I discriminating against girls?” [You’re calling them a girl as soon as you see a noob.] Mu Wanwan, “Please, bruh, do you think a man would use an ID like ‘LookAtMyUltimateMeowMeowPunch’??” MeowMeowPunch, not responding to her message, buys her equipment and returns to the lane. Mu Wanwan controls her game cursor and mumbles, “I suspect this ADC doesn’t know how to play, she can’t even last hit properly.” As she is talking, she moves her cursor and last hits a siege minion in passing. Tristana pauses at the same spot, only continuing her movement after ten seconds without any words. [Why are you touching the minion wave when you’re complaining about the other person’s last hit? I can literally feel the three question marks appearing on Tristina’s head through the screen right now hahahahaha!!] [Look at how good-tempered the girl is, if it’s me I would have cursed at you.] [But that ADC’s control was really noob just now.] That mistake made by Tristana just now has given the opposite ADC quite an advantage in terms of their equipment, they have to start taking this seriously regardless of how much better their bottom lane’s team combination is. It is relatively peaceful for the next ten or so minutes, each team destroying a tower with few major fights between them. As Mu Wanwan had eaten too much from HaiDiLao, her sitting position is slightly laxed, her whole body leaning back into her boss office chair while her hand controls her character, Lulu, moving back to the bottom lane and clear the minion wave that is about to reach their tower. While most of the streamers prefer using a gaming chair, she is using a boss’ office chair. She truly thinks the office chair is pretty comfortable, so she did not bother changing it out. Meanwhile, Tristana roams here and there, all around the help, always trying to disturb the other team’s jungler. [The support is farming while the ADC is roaming, are you sure the two of y’all didn’t get your position wrong??] [2333* Exactly what I thought. These two people seem to have some misunderstanding regarding their own position?] (T/N*: Represents an emoji from a Chinese online platform, almost like our LMAO.) Soon, a team fight starts with the opponent’s Lee Sin flashing in with his R. At this moment, Mu Wanwan is still in the upper parts of the river, it is a perfect position for… an ADC. [What are you standing there for? Go and support! Give them shield!] “I got it, I got it.” Mu Wanwan’s tone is languid. She moves Lulu forward while dodging the skill shots from the other team, her movements and positions are so good that it can be clipped out and used as a video guide. The enemy’s Cho’Gath stands in the middle and blocks her path. She tsked and uses all her support skills on Tristana before she deals auto-attacks on Cho’Gath a couple of times as she waits for her skill cooldowns to refresh. Just at that moment, Lin Jiu returns from outside. Although she is not a League of Legends streamer, she knows what is going on in the game because this game is just too popular. A complicated expression forms on her face, “Why do you need to kite with auto-attack even as Lulu??” Kiting with auto-attacks is a common technique used by slightly higher-tier ADC gameplays. It is not a very difficult technique and it isn’t surprising to see some ADCs in lower ranks using the technique, too -- but it is a technique all ADC know in the higher ranks. Mu Wanwan is stunned momentarily, “... I forgot.” She almost always plays ADC, so the controls and techniques of an ADC are deeply ingrained into her muscle memory. Fortunately, her teammates in this game are all doing pretty well, their middle lane is almost at Legendary* so even if their lane is not as fed as the other lanes, their team fights are not as challenging. (T/N*: 8 consecutive kills without dying.) Other than Tristana, who is attacked by the enemy’s team Lee Sin at the start of their team fight, everyone else in her team is almost all at full health. Soon, the opponent’s team is only left with Lee Sin, who has more agile abilities, but it seems like Lee Sin has no intentions of escaping either as he suddenly turns back and throws out his Q, landing his shot accurately on Tristana, who is already at low health. Tristana quickly pings herself, asking for assistance. Lulu’s ultimate can be used to increase the size of her teammates, instantly recovering a few hundred health points of the targeted teammate, a perfect skill for saving lives. As long as the skill is used on Tristana, she will not die even if she continues to receive damage from Lee Sin. Mu Wanwan leans against her chair, chewing gum in her mouth, as she moves her cursor towards Tristana. She recites Lulu’s voice lines when she casts her ultimate, “Hugeify-”
Bang! Their solo mid, Ziggs, who currently has full health becomes three times his original size under the influence of Lulu’s ultimate, the full green health bar seemingly mocking something-- Mu Wanwan, shocked, quickly straightens herself in the chair, smashing her E button on Tristana, trying her hardest to apply a shield on her but, unfortunately, the skill is still on cooldown… She can only watch as Lee Sin follows up with a second Q, taking down Tristana with him before he is killed. Tristana’s dead character model lies on the ground; she looks so delicate, helpless, and pitiful. Tristana is speechless. The other three teammates all send “???” Lin Jiu, who is sitting beside her, bursts out laughing, barely able to straighten her body amidst her laughter. The viewers start to ridicule her, not holding anything back. [I’m fucking dying from laughter, the both of you have no rights to complain about each other, you guys are the exact same-] [How the heck did you miss your target? Do you not know how to click on the character icons instead??] “My bad, my bad,” Mu Wanwan does not dare to relax anymore, “My hand slipped.” She quickly opens the chat box in-game. The Fae Sorceress apologizes, “Sorry, girl! That was my bad!!” Tristana replies with, “...Np.” The Fae Sorceress adds, “I’ll definitely use my ultimate on you accurately the next time!” Tristana ignores her. Lin Jiu sits next to her with one of her legs over the other while fiddling her phone casually. All of a sudden, recalling something important, Lin Jiu lifts her hand and mutes Mu Wanwan’s mic. “I remember now!” Lin Jiu’s voice is filled with alarm and anger. Mu Wanwan, stupefied, asks, “What?” Lin Jiu points at the screen, “This ‘LookAtMyUltimateMeowMeowPunch’.” “Hm?” Lin Jiu lays it out, “This is the slut everyone knows about at GrandMaster rank.” The audience, not being able to hear their voices, fills the chat with question marks. Mu Wanwan tilts her head and asks, “Hah? Everyone knows? Why don’t I know?” “What do you know about other than ranking up,” Lin Jiu supports her chin with her hand, her expression grave, “... Didn’t you ask why I broke up with my ex-boyfriend last time?” Mu Wanwan lifts her brow, doubtfully, “No way?” Lin Jiu lowers her head slightly, revealing the hair swirl on the top of her head, “See it? It is lush green*.” (T/N*: It is often described as “I am given a green hat” or “I am wearing a green hat” in the Chinese language when you are being cheated on. i.e. In this case, Lin Jiu’s ex-boyfriend cheated on her with the original owner of the ‘LookAtMyUltimateMeowMeowPunch’ account.) Mu Wanwan is icy. “She was not using this ID last time. She changed it only recently. No wonder I couldn’t recognise it immediately,” Lin Jiu continues, “It’s pretty embarrassing to be given a green hat, so I didn’t really want to talk about it, but I didn’t think you’d get into a game with this slut!!” Mu Wanwan puts on an indignant face, “No wonder the ID is so unpleasant to the eyes! See, I didn’t give her my ultimate on purpose!” “Your hand slipped. Don’t use this as an excuse,” Lin Jiu rolls her eyes and continues, “You know what to do now, right?” Mu Wanwan looks questioningly up at Lin Jiu. “Screw her up for me!!” Lin Jiu jabs at the table with her fingers, “Flame her! Ask her why she is such a noob! Understand?!!” Mu Wanwan thinks it through. And then, she nods, “Roger that!” Mu Wanwan turns her mic back on as she moves Lulu towards the middle lane’s tower. She glances at her map and, as expected, Tristana is following their jungler again and walking towards the top lane. Lulu asks, “ADC, where the hell are you running to again? You’re not even clearing minion waves for farming, You sure you know how to play?” Tristana answers, “...?” Two minutes later. Lulu calls her out again,, “Look at your CS*, 25 minutes have already passed and you only have 170+.” (T/N*: CS = creep score) Tristana replies this time,, “I have the highest CS in the team.” Lulu returns, “You can’t compare yourself to others’ standards.” Although Mu Wanwan struggles internally, her hands are very honest as she continues to diss Tristana. Tristana stops talking again. [Are you trolling? How is 170 cs in 25mins bad?] [I only have about 100+ cs at 25mins, 170 cs is pretty high. Maybe the streamer’s ADC skills are too good, so she thought even 170 is low?] [Reported for scolding others.] “I didn’t scold others. Please don’t report me.” Mu Wanwan is reluctant, but off of Lin Jiu’s expression, she has no other choice but to continue typing in the in-game chat. She quickly types out a message every few seconds when the enemy nexus gets destroyed. Lulu manages to send, “You… you are so noob.”
Tristana answers with, “............” Just then, Chen He returns from the toilet, his hand still rubbing his stomach. He sees the word “Victory” on the screen and laughs, “Xiao-Lu, not bad! You won as an ADC in the Challenger ranks.” Pei Lu clicks confirm and returns to match statistic screen. He gives everyone thumbs up to everyone in his team, except for DepressedPrince. “I had really strong teammates,” Pei Lu ponders for a second. Not able to stop himself, he asks, “170 CS in 25 minutes, is that noob?” “You?” Chen He leans in and takes a look at his statistics, “Your CS and damage dealt is pretty good. How is that noob?” Only then does Pei Lu feel better. He clicks away from the statistic page and gets ready to stand up. “Hey, hey, hey, Xiao-Lu,” Chen He stops him, “Don’t go, my stomach is still hurting. C’mon, help me play a few more matches. I’ll give you guidance on the side.” Pei Lu declines with no hesitation, “I don’t want to.” Chen He is surprised since Pei Lu is usually very agreeable, “Why?” Pei Lu is silent for a moment, “I got a really fierce support. I will never play ADC ever again.” “Hahaha, were you scolded?” On the other side, Lil Meat Bun, having just finished his ranked match as well, leans out and chats with them, “Must be because you’re using Chen He’s account. I bet no one will scold you if you’re using your main account.” “Tsk, Meat Bun, what are you implying with that?” Chen He continues, “Besides, that wasn’t my account.” “Who’s was it?” “Meowmeow’s,” Chen He answers. “Oh--” Lil Meat Bun drags out his words, “You’re flirting with girls again? Don’t you remember Brother Yang’s* warning?” (T/N*: Calling some an elder brother is a somewhat affectionate way of calling a male older than you, especially when you are close to him.) Brother Yang is Team TS’s manager and he has reminded Chen He again and again not to flirt and screw around with girls. It is not that relationships are forbidden, but for Chen He, who switches partners every two to three days, just like a playboy, some trouble is bound to happen sooner or later. “Don’t worry about it,” Chen He responds with a smile, clearly not taking Brother Yangs warning seriously, “Don’t you think Meowmeow looks pretty? Right, Xiao-Lu?” “Ah, I don’t know her.” Pei Lu tunes into the LOL TV channel just in time to see HSS’s nexus explode. Chen He sees it, too, and sneers, “This HSS is as noob as usual.” Pei Lu is extremely sensitive to the word ‘noob’ right now. He purses his lips and says nothing. Lil Meat Bun suddenly recalls, “Ah, right. Xiao-Lu, have you requested a leave of absence from your university?” There aren’t a lot of LPL* professional players who are still going to school. Pei Lu is the only one in Team TS who’s still attending university, a pretty good one at that, so his training times are relatively less compared to the rest of his team. In fact, their training schedule is mostly dependent on Pei Lu’s university timetable. (T/N*: LPL: League of Legends Pro League) Despite such circumstances, the experienced, top tier manager of Team TS still insisted on adding Pei Lu into their team. The reason is very simple — he’s strong. It is not an exaggeration to say that Pei Lu is the best support there is in the whole league. With an extremely good game and map sense, precise judgement, and agile controls, Pei Lu has it all. He is not only a strong support, but also the leader who gives orders during a match; the core of the team. Pei Lu smiles, displaying his dimple on his cheek, his canine teeth obvious, and his eyes bright. He does not have an image of being ‘the core of the team’ at all, “Yeah, my teacher accepted my application with no hesitation or questions. She even gave me a bag of snacks.” Lil Meat Bun stares at Pei Lu’s smile, shakes his head and adds on in his mind — He’s also a lady killer. Meat Bun reckons that not a single lady from 18 to 80 years old can bear to be fierce towards him.
