Qiu Nai fixes his gaze on Xiao Zhan. Xiao Zhan looks back, his expression calm, but his intense gaze made Qiu Nai a bit nervous. Xiao Zhan lowers his window and Qiu Nai immediately opens his mouth before Xiao Zhan could say anything, “CEO Xiao, can I have a word with you in private, please?” He is a bit afraid of letting Xiao Zhan speak first. He is afraid that he would hear cold and indifferent words coming out of Xiao Zhan’s mouth, rejecting him. Lu Chuiqing looks at them without a word, he does not need to use his brain to know what the situation is as it unfolds right in front of him. Of course, he believes that Xiao Zhan does not have any playmates since they have gotten together, but it is not something Xiao Zhan can control if those past playmates decide to look for him directly. Although he understands the reason behind it, it does not mean that he can remain unmoved. “What else do you want to say?” Xiao Zhan’s tone is cold, “Was my words not clear enough?” Qiu Nai’s fingers tighten. He stubbornly remains standing next to the car, unresigned, his lips taut tightly. He knows Xiao Zhan does not like him, but he can not bear it any longer. It has been more than half a year. After leaving Xiao Zhan, he went through a period of time muddleheaded. There was still quite a bit of money left from what Xiao Zhan gave him. He relied on that money and stayed in his apartment the whole day, watching movies, playing games, eating when he was hungry, sleeping when he was tired, living his life as a useless person. Qiu Nai did try to go back into his old profession by looking for acting roles for minor and side characters and his previous boss was warmhearted enough to introduce him to some directors. However, he did hint that finding those directors would most likely need him to accompany them for drinks and on their beds. Qiu Nai could no longer endure such things. The mere sight of those types of people disgusts him so he abandoned his job as a minor character and ran back home again. His previous boss got pretty angry since Qiu Nai stood up, so he would probably never introduce him to any jobs from now on. Qiu Nai merely wants to live his life next to Xiao Zhan with no worries where he does not need to care about anything or anyone else other than Xiao Zhan. He would not need to face those types of people, he would not need to worry about earning a living, he would not need to be afraid of being lonely, he would not need to worry about how to survive alone. Qiu Nai was disgusted by himself too, but he knew that he would never be an ambitious person in his whole life. He did not want to be one either. He began looking for Xiao Zhan. Xiao Zhan’s company has barred him out, so he was left with no choice but to wait for him at the district entrance where Xiao Zhan is living, to wait for him to come back. Qiu Nai opens his mouth, wanting to say something more, but Lu Chuiqing, who is at the front passenger seat, begins to unbuckle his safety belt suddenly, preparing to leave the car. Xiao Zhan quickly grabs Lu Chuiqing’s wrist, his voice low, “Where are you going?” Lu Chuiqing, “...Let me have a chat with him.” Xiao Zhan remains silent for a moment, his gaze not leaving Lu Chuiqing as he observes his side profile. Finally, Xiao Zhan lets out a light sigh before releasing his hand. Lu Chuiqing gets out of the car and walks towards Qiu Nai, stopping in front of him. He looks at him, tidies up the lapel of his suit jacket and speaks firmly, treating Qiu Nai as a partner for a civil conversation, “Mister, just say it to me if you have anything to say.” Qiu Nai smiles pointedly, “What do I have to say to you? The one I want to talk to is CEO Xiao, not you.” Lu Chuiqing simply reaches out and drags him on his arm, pulling him towards the back of the fountain. Qiu Nai forcefully shakes off Lu Chuiqing’s hand and says coldly, “What’s this? Are you here to show off? If so, please excuse me because I’m not in the mood.” With that, Qiu Nai takes a stride forward but Lu Chuiqing steps in front of him, blocking his path as he responds with a heavy tone, “I’m not here to show off.” “I know you’re feeling very pleased with yourself, alright?” Qiu Nai lifts his head, a hint of anger and signs of him giving up on himself as his voice trembles, “CEO Xiao likes you, he doesn’t want me anymore, yes, I’ve lost to you. But the matters between CEO Xiao and me are none of your business, so can you please get out of my way?!” “It’s my business.” Lu Chuiqing crosses his arm, his brows slightly creased, “Xiao Zhan is my boyfriend and I know you are too. Allowing you to have a private conversation with him? Please excuse me because I’m not that generous.” Qiu Nai is stunned. It was as if Lu Chuiqing’s words had struck him in his mind like a clap of thunder, causing him to be momentarily dumbstruck. He stares blankly for a moment before he cries out, “Are you insane?! CEO Xiao would never…” Qiu Nai shuts up in that instant. He suddenly realises that this person in front of him is completely different from him, he is completely different from any of the people that were beside Xiao Zhan in the past. He was sitting on Xiao Zhan’s front passenger seat, and he addresses Xiao Zhan by his name directly. Just now, back in the car, his tone towards Xiao Zhan when he was talking to him did not even have a hint of the mindfulness he himself needs when Qiu Nai talks to Xiao Zhan.
Only then does Qiu Nai begin to observe Lu Chuiqing’s appearance carefully. He is beautiful and charming, but Qiu Nai can not tell how old he is because he looks very young, just like those energetic students from an advanced educational establishment. When he was with Xiao Zhan in the past, Qiu Nai would wear whatever Xiao Zhan likes, he even chose his collar depending on which one would earn an extra glance from Xiao Zhan. However, this fair and magnanimous man in front of him is different, he is wearing a clean and neat white shirt, a pair of black fitting suit trousers, a shiny pair of leather shoes, wearing a collar commonly used for commuting, everything he wears is what a normal white collar would wear with absolutely no hints of him intentionally dressing himself up. It was precisely because of that, that Qiu Nai finally understood that this person is different. And that there will never be people like him that would enter Xiao Zhan’s eyes ever again. Lu Chuiwing accepts his gaze readily and says, “I will not get involved in you and Xiao Zhan’s past, but if you have something you must say to him, I can help you pass on the message.” Qiu Nai remains silent for a moment as if his spirit was sucked out of his body by shock, the entirety of him feels sadness and emptiness inside. Even his voice is unsteady, “CEO Xiao has never paid attention to me, I knew that… But I still want to stay beside him. I can’t continue on without him… What does it feel like to be liked by CEO Xiao? Tell me, please.” Lu Chuiqing’s voice is heavy, “You can live well even without Xiao Zhan.” “What rights do you have to say such things? Only because you have the things I don’t have! Only then can you boast so shamelessly!” Qiu Nai looks at him, a look of defeat evident on his face, his voice trembling more and more, “CEO Xiao cherishes you in his heart now, and here you are, being arrogant just because of his favour. And me? My family doesn’t care about me, I can’t stay at my job place either, even now, I’m still using the money he had left for me! Living in the apartment that he gave me! Other than CEO Xiao, I have no other financial income! Why don’t you tell me what I should do?!” “What makes you have the right to make Xiao Zhan your financial income?” Lu Chuiqing is slightly angry, “If you can’t stay, then just change to a new place! How is it related to him if you’re the one who doesn’t want to work?! Did he force you?!” “Do you think everyone is the same as you?” Qiu Nai’s laugh is mocking, “A white-collar in a big company, earning a stable wage, even the big boss favours you. You’re only looking down on me just because you’re lucky in life!” Lu Chuiqing stares at him deeply, “Fine, I understand now. Just because you don’t want to bear any hardships and go through any troubles, you assumed that all those people who have actually worked hard and gone through hardships only got to where they are now because of luck. You’re the one who’s abandoning yourself to despair, I did not look down on you.” Qiu Nai lowered his head, his eyes slightly red as he remained silent. “Anyway, don’t come and find Xiao Zhan again… You’ll never have a good ending if you rely on others for everything.” Lu Chuiqing says quietly, “That’s all, goodbye.” Lu Chuiqing finishes what he wants to say, glances briefly at Qiu Nai and turns around to walk back to Xiao Zhan’s car. Qiu Nai sits next to the fountain as he stares at Lu Chuiqing retreating back lifelessly and helplessly. Lu Chuiqing returns to the car, which is started up quickly, and they enter the district through the entrance with no hint of hesitation. Qiu Nai remains on the spot, staring blankly, for a long while, until he suddenly feels his body getting cold from the night breeze. Only then does he stand up, both his legs and cheeks are stiff from the cold. He takes a final look at the light behind the walls separating him from the district with his red eyes before he turns and leaves.
Lu Chuiqing remains wordless on their way back. When they arrive at Xiao Zhan’s house, Lu Chuiqing does not even look for the kitty he has been looking forward to spending time with, going straight into the bedroom’s bathroom to take a shower. After his shower, as Lu Chuiqing wears his pyjamas and steps out of the bathroom, he sees Xiao Zhan sitting on the couch next to the bed with the kitty lying on his legs, its stomach facing upwards, wiggling in Xiao Zhan’s embrace. Xiao Zhan lifts the kitty and places it on the mat, taking off his suit and shirt before going into the bathroom. The kitty sharpens its claws against the mat for a while before it suddenly gets excited as it leans on the sleeve of the shirt Xiao Zhan has left on the couch. It then drags it to the floor, rolls around and ended up wrapping itself in the shirt. Lu Chuiqing sits on the edge of the bed as he watches the kitty enjoy itself on the mat. In the end, he sighs and reaches out to pick up the kitty, rescuing Xiao Zhan’s crumpled shirt and folding it properly before putting it back on the couch. The kitty probably feels much more familiar with Lu Chuiqing now as it no longer shows much reluctance towards being picked up by him. Instead, the kitty hugs Lu Chuiqing’s arm and nibbles him lightly. Lu Chuiqing lies on the bed on his side as he caresses the fluffy fur on the back of the kitty. Lu Chuiqing is indeed angry regarding the matter with Qiu Nai. Anyone who comes across such things is most probably unable to remain even-tempered. However, he is able to remain calm despite his anger, he was able to say what he wanted to say. There was no need for him to make trouble without reason. The water sound from the bathroom stops not long later, which is followed by Xiao Zhan coming out of the bathroom. He comes straight to Lu Chuiqing, picks up Lil Friend from Lu Chuiqing’s embrace and brings him back to its place downstairs. When he is back in the bedroom, Lu Chuiqing has already covered himself in the blanket as if he is all ready to go to sleep. Xiao Zhan walks over and Lu Chuiqing can feel the bedsheet beside him sink in. He turns around and bumps into Xiao Zhan’s bare chest as he is not wearing a top. It is warm. Xiao Zhan reaches out to touch the tip of Lu Chuiqing’s hair, it is still a bit wet, “Why didn’t you dry your hair?” Lu Chuiqing purses his lips, “... Xiao Zhan, are you still supporting that person financially?” “I did, in the past.” Xiao Zhan pulls Lu Chuiqing into his embrace easily, covering both of their bodies with the blanket, “Did he tell you?” Lu Chuiqing’s lips twitch as he mumbles quietly, “You might as well give me a name list so that I can remember their names as well so I can at least tell who is who when there are other people waiting for you at the entrance again in the future.” Xiao Zhan chuckles, his gaze deep and his low voice sounded beside Lu Chuiqing’s ear, “I’m sorry, I can tell you if you really wish to know about my past.” Lu Chuiqing lifts his head in Xiao Zhan’s embrace, “Then… have you ever treated anyone seriously before?” “Once when I was still in school. But now that I think about it, I was too young then. There was no weight to the words I said.” Xiao Zhan replies flatly, “Same goes for people.” Lu Chuiqing pauses. He lowers his head and leans into Xiao Zhan’s neck, his voice muffled, “Forget it, don’t tell me. I’m not that generous, I’ll become angry if I hear about it… Let the past be in the past, don’t mention it again.” Besides, he has not mentioned his own past to Xiao Zhan either and he is planning to keep it a secret in his heart for his whole life. He will call that even. Xiao Zhan plants a kiss on Lu Chuiqing’s ear, his voice is unexpectedly filled with interest, “What did you talk about with Qiu Nai just now?” “That person from just now is called Qiu Nai? Nothing much… I only asked him to stop coming back to look for you.” “Hn, that’s good.” Xiao Zhan is extremely cold and indifferent towards people and things which he has no interest in, so cold that if one of those people fall in love with him or wish to occupy a spot in his heart, they will definitely be faced with the pain of defeat and suffering as a result. For a person like Xiao Zhan, there is probably no one who could resist him if he genuinely feels a deep love for them.
