Chapter 6

Fang Jiaming stands immediately as he sees his nephew, ignoring the omega next to him, and punches him lightly on his shoulder, “You brat, how dare you make your uncle wait?” Fang Shaojun remains seated and continues to drink from his glass, showing no intention of greeting his older cousin at all. His eyes paused on the omega standing next to Xiao Zhan and made a face. It is obvious that Fang Shaojun looks down upon the omega. It was only thanks to Fang Shaojun’s parents’ resources and network, that his company continues to exist today. There are barely any achievements by himself at all. Rather, most of his company’s investments turned into losses. Fang Shaojun never hides his dissatisfaction and hate for Xiao Zhan. Xiao Zhan has never cared. Xiao Zhan smiles lightly, “Of course not, there was a light traffic jam.” Fang Jiaming waves his hand impatiently, “Oh please, did you think I would fall that, you brat?” He turns around to look at his son and shouts, “Shaojun! Why are you still sitting? Stand up and greet your cousin!” Fang Shaojun stands up reluctantly and greets Xiao Zhan with a cold voice, “Cousin.” Xiao Zhan replies, “Xiao-Jun*.” (T/N*: Xiao Zhan called Xiao-Jun 小钧 here, kind of like a nickname, which is directly translated to “Little Jun”. It sounds weird as heck so I have decided to use the pronunciation instead.) The young omega beside Xiao Zhan says his greetings obediently, “CEO Fang, Young Master Fang.” The pair from the Fang family obviously know that omega’s identity. Fang Jiaming only nods his head lightly in response while Fang Shaojun did not even bother to spare the omega another glance. Fang Jiaming urges, “Let’s go play a few rounds of billiards. It has been too long.” “Sure, please go easy on me.” “You brat, this again? Since when have you lost against me before?” Fang Jiaming laughs and then says Fang to Shaojun, “Shaojun, let’s go.” “Dad, you guys go ahead.” Fang Shaojun pats his legs and sits back on the sofa, “I’ll have a few more drinks.” Fang Jiaming frowns but decides not to say anything. He then turns and walks to the club with Xiao Zhan. The club employees have been chatting here and there. They immediately stopped their chattering at the sight of Fang Jiaming and Xiao Zhan, and greeted both of them respectfully. Fang Jiaming merely waves his hands, asking them to relax and go do their own things. Xiao Zhan whispers something to the boy next to him, the latter nods. The omega then walks to the sofa at the side obediently and starts minding his own business. Fang Jiaming and Xiao Zhan walks to the billiard table and receives the cues from the server. Although Fang Jiaming suggested playing billiards, it is not his true intention. He starts the game and says, “Ah-Zhan*, don’t mind Xiao-Jun, he is just being a brat.” (T/N*: Again, nicknames will be denoted by the - in the middle.) “It’s fine, I don’t mind it at all.” “Your aunt and I have indeed pampered him too much.” Fang Jiaming sighs, “We were against him starting his own company at first. This child has such ambitions but he has no ability to go with them. I have since advised him to start working from the bottom, to properly understand this industry before managing the company on a larger scale. He just refuses to listen and goes ahead to do his own VC*. Just look at him, does he look like he is suited for it? If not for me and his mum, how long can he even sustain with that company of his?” (T/N*: Venture capital, I think.) Fang Jiaming pauses and sneers, “He even lost a big sum last year and tried to hide it by compensating the loss from his own pockets. Hmph, has he even looked at himself in the mirror? Did he seriously think he could have hidden that from us?” Xiao Zhan smiles lightly and replies, “He merely needs a little more training and experience. It’ll get better after a few years.” “You are putting it nicely, but your aunt and I are worried sick. I am not expecting much from Xiao-Jun, I am merely asking him to be realistic. We have worked so hard to build up our business, there is no way I will let him destroy Zhong Ming like this.” Fang Jiaming loosens his collar, his eyes filled with worry, “I guess it is a good thing that his company is facing a loss right now. This will force him to understand that this industry will only recognise ability, not his identity or his family. He won’t learn without failing a few times.” Xiao Zhan bends down and takes his turn on the billiards table, hitting the ball with great accuracy. Fang Jiaming asks, “How’s your company doing recently?” “The same.” Fang Jiaming chuckles, “I heard that you are going to take action after the new year celebrations, though?” Xiao Zhan glances up, “Did Yuanning tell you?” “I was the one who gave you Yuanning to help you out with your business. Haven’t we come to an agreement before? That he would report to me if you have any problems.” Fang Jiaming knows his nephew very well, he knows that Xiao Zhan will mind such petty things, “But he has only lightly mentioned it, he probably knows that you would blame him. What, you’re not going to tell your dear uncle anything?”
Xiao Zhan laughs, “Aren’t you just waiting for the results?” Fang Jiaming lets out a light sigh and says ruefully, “If only Xiao-Jun has half of your calmness and resolution.” Following that, Fang Jiaming tells Xiao Zhan about the suite room that he has prepared specially for him, telling him to go ahead and rest when he is tired and asks Xiao Zhan to join him for breakfast tomorrow morning. Xiao Zhan, “Since you offered, I’d gladly accept it.” Fang Jiaming, “You brat, you just won’t stay unless everything is properly served to you, huh?” Xiao Zhan smiles, not replying. After playing a few rounds of billiards, Xiao Zhan bids his uncle farewell and goes to his room to rest as he has other things to settle. He glances at the sleepy omega on the sofa. The latter immediately stands up and runs towards Xiao Zhan, grabbing his arm. On the second floor, Xiao Zhan exits the billiards room and sees a few employees from Zhong Ming chatting and eating at the bar downstairs. “......The stock for the food industry has been doing really well recently. Is there anyone from our department researching this?” One of the employees adds excitedly, “especially that Qifu Provisions, their stock has increased by six per cent yesterday. The stock price has already exceeded twenty! Even Wei Yin Financial Security (维因证券) released a report yesterday saying that they are optimistic about Qifu Provisions’ first two quarters.” Manager Qian replies, “Our department is not responsible for this. We are focusing more on technology and energy stocks this season, there is no way we can switch now. But it should be fine if you want to invest individually. Have any of you bought it?” Some employees have already bought it, even Song Wenxin. Lu Chuiqing glances back and forth at them and cannot help himself but comments, “I think Qifu Provisions may not do that well in the long-term… it will most probably be a speculative investment.” Manager Qian is surprised, “Xiao-Lu, have you researched it?” “Not really. I had too much time on my hands during the two months before entering the company, so I took a look at Qifu Provisions’ financial reports in recent years.” Lu Chuiqing touches his head, slightly embarrassed, “Their financial reports are… questionable. There are many annotations without clear explanations. Although they have reported a huge growth from increasing their sales of dry fruits goods, there was absolutely no explanation on how they increased it, nor did they report on whether the sales were online or offline. They were also ambiguous on their guarantees and acquisitions. There is a pretty high chance that they are over-reporting their numbers to cover up their debts. But it is difficult to conclude without more information… After all, their financial reports have been approved, and the officials must have better judgement than I do. I was just looking at their reports casually.” The group breaks into a discussion after hearing what Lu Chuiqing said. Most find it unbelievable, while others do have their suspicions. On the other hand, Manager Qian is looking at him thoughtfully, an expression of appreciation and approval on his face. It was indeed due to curiosity that Lu Chuiqing decided to download Qifu Provisions’ financial reports, it was also just him attempting to find out the reason behind Qifu Provisions’ demise in his previous life. He knew very well that such research is impossible for a single person given the time and data required. Furthermore, much of the data needed for comprehensive research are not readily available to the public. Such in-depth research work would take at least a couple of months, even for a company like Value Scan. At this moment, no one has realised Xiao Zhan leaning against the staircase railing on the second floor behind them. He has heard most of their conversations. The young omega beside him has wanted to leave the venue with Xiao Zhan for a long time. Seeing that Xiao Zhan has been standing there and not leaving for a long time now, he asks, confused, “CEO Xiao, what are you looking at?” Instead of replying, Xiao Zhan looks over at where the discussion took place. That person is wearing a fitting white shirt. He is extremely lean, and a common functional silver-white coloured electric collar can be seen around his thin, pale neck.
Xiao Zhan ponders for a moment, a faint smile on his lips. Finally, he turns around and walks down the stairs. Manager Qian is the quickest to notice Xiao Zhan’s presence. He stands up immediately and greets, “CEO Xiao, please take care!” The rest of the employees followed Manager Qian’s lead and greeted Xiao Zhan too. Xiao Zhan’s eyes fall on Chuiqing’s face subtly, while the latter coincidentally looks up at that precise moment. It lasts for less than a moment before Xiao Zhan passes by and leaves the venue. Lu Chuiqing did not think much of the encounter. He only thought briefly of how handsome and strict Xiao Zhan looks and continued his conversation with his colleagues without any afterthoughts. Xiao Zhan returns to the suite room Fang Jiaming has prepared for him. The suite room is, indeed, extremely well prepared. It is filled with brands that Xiao Zhan usually uses, high-quality toiletries, red wine and desserts on the small table on the balcony, and some adult items placed neatly on the nightstand. Xiao Zhan sits down at the desk. He opens his laptop and calls someone on his mobile not long after. Meanwhile, the boy on the side meanders around Xiao Zhan’s leather chair, like a cat trying to get its master’s attention. Xiao Zhan cannot be bothered to tell him off. He continues minding his own business and not responding to the boy’s show of affection. Seeing that Xiao Zhan did not take him off, the boy leans into Xiao Zhan’s bosom, kissing his jaws and throat. While still in his call, Xiao Zhan glances down and pats the boy’s head. The boy reaches out to unbutton Xiao Zhan’s shirt, slowly moving down, and ends up kneeling on the floor. The boy’s hands lightly caressed the cloth of Xiao Zhan’s pants near his knees, and his fingers reached out to Xiao Zhan’s belt… Xiao Zhan stands up suddenly, walks to the balcony and pours himself a glass of red wine. Yuanning, on the other side of the line, asks, “When shall we publish this report?” “After new years.” Xiao Zhan replies, “there is no need to rush.” Yuanning is Value Scan’s general manager. He was initially working at Zhongming Funding but was poached by Xiao Zhan to work for him at Value Scan. Since his ex-boss, Fang Jiaming was intending to provide some capable manpower for his nephew anyway, Yuanning transferred from Zhongming to Value Scan without a hitch. Fang Jiaming was not planning to send Yuanning to Value Scan at first if not for Xiao Zhan’s keen eyes at spotting capable people. Yuanning has been groomed for a long time for higher management within companies, even Fang Jiaming felt a sense of loss for a few days when Yuanning transferred over to Value Scan. Fang Jiaming took this as an excuse to take two bottles of Xiao Zhan’s most expensive white wine, and also took advantage of this to get regular updates on Xiao Zhan’s situation through Yuanning. Yuanning and Xiao Zhan are almost the same age and works well together. The recent gradual growth of Value Scan has a lot to do with Yuanning’s ability and hard work. “Understood, I’ll get it sorted out.” Xiao Zhan turns around after the call ended. The young omega is still sitting in the room, staring at Xiao Zhan impatiently. Xiao Zhan took a sip of wine from his glass and says, “I’ll ask someone to send you back.” The boy expression darkens in an instant, replies, “CEO Xiao…… I don’t want to go back.” Xiao Zhan remains silent. The boy asks carefully, “Did I do something to make you angry? You haven’t been paying much attention to me lately…” Xiao Zhan loosens his tie, “Go back, I want to rest.” The boy startles, he knows he has no rights to haggle with Xiao Zhan. When the boy was alone, all he looks forward to is receiving Xiao Zhan’s call asking him to go to him. He knows he is merely one of many others to Xiao Zhan, but Xiao Zhan is his everything. The boy knows clearly that Xiao Zhan will not remain interested in him forever, but he has never thought that the day Xiao Zhan loses his interest would come so soon. The boy sits dejectedly on the floor. Thinking of his own good-for-nothingness, he says hoarsely, “CEO Xiao, please don’t abandon me, I don’t know what else I can do… Please don’t ask me to go, I beg you. I will listen to whatever you say… I can even give birth for you!” Xiao Zhan gazes at him momentarily and slowly says, “Get out.”
