Chapter 26: Present

If not for Yan Yu’s reminder, Chen Yifei would probably not have paid much attention to such traditional festivals. However, Yan Yu was definitely not someone who liked to celebrate traditional festivals either. He merely wanted to have a few more days to spend his time with Chen Yifei without being disturbed by work.
In the afternoon, Yan Yu had already declared to Chen Yifei that work was over and went directly to the car park.
Chen Yifei entered the car and asked, “Where are we going?”
“Just drive according to my directions.”
Yan Yu stubbornly wanted to be secretive about it. As if he was a sat-nav, Yan Yu gave directions to Chen Yifei. Who knew where he was leading them? Chen Yifei only cared about following his directions but the distance seemed to be quite far. He was not familiar with the route either.
Chen Yifei only felt that the scenery next to the road seemed vaguely familiar one hour later. Only when he drove into a relatively empty road with the School Zone Ahead sign on the side of the road, did he suddenly recall.
The elementary school they went to was not far away.
Yan Yu laughed, “Do you remember now?”
Chen Yifei was momentarily at a loss for words. Although it had been a long time ago, he could still remember how their classroom looked. Chen Yifei asked, “How do you still remember the way here?”
“I memorised the route beforehand.” Yan Yu answered, “Don’t you feel like this place is filled with memories?”
At that time, Chen Yifei’s house was not that far from the school. He’d commute by walking to school and he would walk past a small supermarket every day. He did not see the supermarket when they drove by. Instead, it had changed to a mobile phone shop of a certain brand.

Chen Yifei’s heart stirred. His childhood was smooth-sailing; he had no worries nor did he think he would be together with the grade year’s most headache-inducing brat twenty plus years down the road.
Although the school had already been renovated, it still looked like it was filled with youthful energy. It just happened to be time for lunch break. There were many elementary students wearing blue and white uniforms, grouping up and eating snacks on the street.
Yan Yu nudged him, “Do you want to go in and have a look?”
Chen Yifei nodded and explained their reason for the visit to the school’s guard, which took quite a bit of their time before they were permitted to enter. There were no big changes in the layout of the school, only that the buildings were not as simple and crude as they were years ago. Instead, they were all brand new now.
Yan Yu attracted quite a bit of attention from the children so the two decided to park the car somewhere else and walked into the building instead.
The two did not find any names they found particularly familiar in the list of teachers’ names when they entered the teaching building. The teacher who taught them that year was not teaching there anymore which meant that she might have already resigned.
Although it had been so many years and it was probably difficult for them to find scenery that resembled the scenery they had seen in the past, Yan Yu still wanted to come back and have a look. After all, this place was considered the starting point of his dream. If he did not say those bold and visionary words to little Class President Chen at that time, he probably would not have come this far since that day.
Besides, to see a smile hang on Chen Yifei’s face throughout their visit, Yan Yu felt that today’s trip was all worth it.
The two took a stroll and arrived at the sports field nearby. The sports field and the spectator’s grandstand were probably the only places that were not changed. Yan Yu leaned on the wire netting surrounding the sports field and looked inside as he said, ruefully, “This was where I gave away my first kiss.”
Chen Yifei raised his brows, “Really? To whom?”
“A girl from the class next door. We were playing together at that time and I bumped into her and kissed her accidentally. She cried so much, too.” Yan Yu said, “She looked like she had been wronged or something. I should be the one who wanted to cry; that was my first kiss after all.”
Chen Yifei never thought that Yan Yu would be the type to mind such things. His own first kiss was probably given to some guy during his middle school, which he could not even recall anymore.
“I don’t know if you remembered, I think it was during the Sports’ Festival during our fourth year, the both of us participated in the short-distance race and I won.” Yan Yu recalled as he said, “That was probably the only time when I thought I could compete against you.”
Indeed, Chen Yifei could not remember. He shook his head and smiled faintly, “Aren’t you much more awesome than me now?”
Yan Yu did not bother with trying to be modest when Chen Yifei praised him. Instead, he smiled, feeling pleased with himself.
The both of them walked around the school idly until evening, had dinner at a nearby small restaurant, and drove home slowly afterwards. Once they were home, Yan Yu dragged Chen Yifei to their bedroom. Chen Yifei laughed resignedly, “Isn’t it too early now?”
Yan Yu insisted, “That’s not it, I have a present for you.”
Yan Yu made Chen Yifei sit on the bed, open the wardrobe, and took out a delicate paper bag. A rectangular-shaped box was inside.
Chen Yifei asked slowly, “What is this?”
Yan Yu passed the bag to him, “Go ahead and open it.”
Chen Yifei unwrapped the gift box. He was flabbergasted the moment he saw what was inside. He would never have guessed that it was male’s underwear inside the gift box.
Chen Yifei stared at the delicate box of underwear, his expression complicated.
Chen Yifei was unsure whether to cry or laugh, “Who would give others a pair of underwear as a present?”
“Didn’t you say I was being uncreative for giving you a wallet for your birthday last time?” Yan Yu said, “So I thought I wanted to give you something special this time.”
“...It’s indeed pretty special.”
Yan Yu pulled Chen Yifei up, “Let’s try it on.”
“You even want me to try it on?”
“Of course.”
Yan Yu pulled off Chen Yifei’s suit pants, took out the new underwear from the box and took off the one on Chen Yifei. He made Chen Yifei wear the new pair, admired it and nodded with satisfaction.
Chen Yifei was unsure whether to cry or laugh, “Is that necessary? Who else would see it other than you?”
“It’s precisely because I’ll see it that I need to make sure that it is pleasing to the eyes.”
Chen Yifei was not as creative as Yan Yu. He initially wanted to properly exhibit his cooking skills by cooking him a good meal, but considering that they went back to their elementary school, he could only do it another day.
Chen Yifei fell silent for a while before the corners of his lips lifted suddenly. He looked at Yan Yu and asked, “Wanna do it?”
Yan Yu didn’t even think twice, “Of course.”
“Where?”
Yan Yu hesitated, “...Here?”
“It’s still early.” Chen Yifei picked up the trousers on the floor and pulled them back on, “If there’s anywhere else you want to go, we can go right now.”
Yan Yu’s eyes brightened. He dragged his voice and laughed, “Ohhー, so you’re trying to wing it because you didn’t prepare any present for me?”
Chen Yifei chuckled, “Are you not gonna seize this opportunity?”
There was no way Yan Yu would let this opportunity go. Having operated his business for so long now, he knew the importance of opportunities. It wasn’t often that Chen Yifei let him have his way so naturally, he had to grasp this chance properly.
Yan Yu stated, “Let’s go, then.”
“You’ve thought about it?”
Yan Yu confirmed, “I’ve thought about it.”
“Where to?”
Yan Yu pushed Chen Yifei to walk forward, pushing him directly out of their house entrance, then to the car’s front passenger seat. Yan Yu went back to get some necessities before he went back to the car’s driver seat. He had decided to drive the car, something he had not done for a long time.
Chen Yifei was doubtful, “You’re driving?”
“I’m driving.” Yan Yu replied, “I’m scared that you’d go back on what you said.”
Since Chen Yifei had already promised him, he would not go back on what he said as long as it was not somewhere too weird. After ten or so minutes of driving, Chen Yifei finally understood why Yan Yu wanted to drive himself. Wasn’t this the road to their office?
Chen Yifei looked out the window and could not help but laugh, resignedly.
The other people left in the office at such time were those one or two employees who were working overtime and the security staff. To suddenly see Chairman Yan and Assistant Chen coming back to the office, all of them thought that there had been some emergencies.
Yan Yu’s steps were a bit rushed as he instructed, “Assistant Chen and I have something important to discuss, don’t disturb us and leave directly once you are done with your work.”
Yan Yu was exceptionally excited when they entered the chairman’s office. Those documents, computer, chairs and tables, all the things he had seen over a thousand times in his office were all making him feel an ineffable sense of heat and impatience.
Chen Yifei thought that he must have gone crazy to have agreed to come back to the office to “have a love affair”. He did not like it in the first place, but since, strictly speaking, it was not their work time, he decided to let it slide this time.
Before they even had time to clear off the things on the sofa, the two were already hugging and fell on it, their clothes being taken off, hurriedly. The temperature in the chairman’s office was set just right, the occasional sounds from high heels could be heard and yet, nobody would have thought what kind of scene was playing out inside the office at this very moment.
Until the lights outside the office were turned off one by one, the inside of the office was still filled with the intense flavour of lust and desire. Yan Yu’s throat was almost emitting smoke, but he did not want Chen Yifei to stop. Such insanity made it hard for people to free themselves from it.
That night, they only returned home past three in the morning. Not only did they have a round of crazy love-making, they also had to clean up their aftermath so the two were completely exhausted.
The next morning, Chairman Yan and Assistant Chen appeared in front of the rest of the employees as per normal, not a single anomaly could be seen. Only, when Chen Yifei finished his work and returned to the office, he saw Yan Yu staring blankly at the coffee table.
Chen Yifei knocked the file lightly on Yan Yu’s head, “Stop thinking about it.”
Yan Yu sighed, “I don’t want to either, but the coffee table is just there so blatantly. I could not avoid looking at it at all, so how could I not recall…”
Chen Yifei felt like he should not have agreed to it yesterday if he had known Yan Yu would get distracted. He said, “Let’s change the coffee table.”
“You’re gonna change it after each time? Isn’t that a waste?”
Chen Yifei was adamant, “There won’t be next time.”
Yan Yu’s lips twitched, “Didn’t you enjoy it quite a bit, too?”
Chen Yifei could not deny that it was an instinct for humans to enjoy doing something taboo, but he thought that forsaking such temptation was much better than having Yan Yu stare blankly at the coffee table the whole day.
At that moment, someone knocked on the door to deliver a document. It was some business data regarding the branch office. Yan Yu gathered his attention and tried not to think about that coffee table or what they had done on it the other day, refocusing on his work.
Only then did Chen Yifei return to his seat, satisfied.
It had been some time since the branch company started operation and there were reports on some employees and their performances. As a department manager, Xu Yunfei’s performance in this season was much better than expected.
Since the branch company was only just starting out, it was still quite a distance away from applying for an official transfer to the main office, but since the other party was Chen Yifei’s friend, Yan Yu thought it was acceptable to pay more attention to him, occasionally.
